Criminal Defense and State and Federal Appeals

When you are facing serious criminal charges, it is absolutely essential that you have top legal representation. The consequences of a conviction can include the loss of freedom, crippling fines, and a destroyed reputation.

If you or a loved one has been arrested and charged with a crime, whether a misdemeanor or a serious felony, or if you would like to appeal a prior conviction, contact the Law Office of Henry E. Marines for experienced and qualified legal representation.

Florida criminal defense lawyer Henry E. Marines is a former prosecutor and current defense attorney for Florida Regional Counsel’s Office. He has handled thousands of cases on both the state and federal level. He will fight to try to convince the prosecutors not to file charges, or dismiss charges before a trial. If a trial is unavoidable, he will try to substantially reduce the charges and will fight aggressively to protect your rights.

Types of Cases

Attorney Marines has the experience and the skill to represent clients for any alleged criminal offense, including:

  • Financial Crimes—these can include fraud, bribery, insider trading, embezzlement, and money laundering. These crimes are often referred to as “white collar,” because they do not involve violence and the alleged criminal usually has social status and money. The punishments however, can be severe.
  • Money laundering is a process or series of actions through which income of illegal origin is concealed, disguised, or made to appear legitimate to evade detection, prosecution, seizure, and/or taxation. Illicit proceeds must be “laundered” to make it appear as though the funds were generated through some legitimate means. This allows criminals to enjoy the proceeds of their criminal activity without raising suspicion.
  • Drug-Related Crimes—Drug offenses, such as drug trafficking, carry harsh penalties, particularly under the federal law. The federal sentencing guidelines may be summarized as follow: the higher the offense level, the harsher the sentence. The base offense level under the federal guidelines differs for different drugs and for different amounts of the same drug. It is essential for an accused to be represented by attorneys who have experience navigating these sentencing issues.
  • Violent Crimes—any crime involving violence will be charged initially as a felony. Crimes such as armed robbery, aggravated assault, or murder can result in decades of incarceration. However, working through the cases can often result in a reduction of charges, or in the dismissal of the case in its entirety
  • Appeals—If you are attempting to appeal a conviction, Attorney Marines can also help. He has handled appeals in the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Ninth, Tenth and Eleventh Circuit Court Federal Court of Appeals, the State of Florida Second and Third District Court of Appeals, the Southern and Northern District Courts of Texas, Eastern and Southern District Courts of New York and the Federal District Court of Puerto Rico.
